You’ve probably heard that certain foods can help you look younger, and I think there’s some truth to that, particularly if they’re part of a healthy lifestyle. Now that summer’s coming, here are some top picks for helping you to defy your age and feel your best!

1. Get enough sleep. Americans are sleep deprived as a nation, and that has ramifications not only for the aging process, but also for our weight. Stress can increase your need for sleep, and studies show that sleep deprivation can shift hunger hormones (e.g., ghrelin) and cravings for sweets into overdrive. Research suggests that less than 7 hours of sleep a night is usually not enough for most people; however, only you know what the right amount of sleep is for your body and lifestyle.

2. Drink enough water. Although it’s always tempting to want to reach for juice, alcohol, a Frappuccino, or some other calorie-laden drink, they’re not only chock full of calories but can also be dehydrating, which can give your skin a tired appearance. In addition, it has been suggested that 2 out of 3 times when you think you’re hungry, you’re actually thirsty, so getting enough water could potentially help with weight loss as well. Everyone’s fluid needs are different, but 48 to 64 ounces per day is the general recommended range. Ideally, your urine should be clear if you are properly hydrated.

3. Fight stress. Exercise can help you burn calories and dissipate stress, but if you’re especially anxious for any reason, a workout at the gym may not calm you down fully. I discovered yoga about 8 years ago when I went looking for a stress reliever, and I’ve never looked back. You don’t have to be as flexible as a pretzel either, since yoga is all about connecting with your breath. I also highly recommend meditation, even if it’s only for a few minutes a day. Many great CDs out there can help you get started.

4. Breathe deeply (and correctly). Sometimes when patients come into my office who are highly anxious, I ask them if they know how to breathe—and get some funny looks for sure! The truth is, however, that many people breathe very shallowly, within their chests, instead of breathing deeply through the lungs using the diaphragm. When it comes to fighting anxiety, breathing properly can make a huge difference.

5. Eat fatty fish. Fatty fish like salmon contains omega-3 fatty acids that can be good not only for improving your skin and cardiovascular system, but for lowering your stress level as well. Some health advocates even recommend eating salmon every day to delay or possibly eliminate the need for plastic surgery.

6. Think positive thoughts. It’s said that we are what we think, and this is crucial information since the average person is estimated to have about 60,000 thoughts a day—many of them the same ones we we’ve been preoccupied with for days or decades. And if many of these thoughts are also negative, they can affect not only your body by creating stress, but also your face by carving worry lines into it. Research has suggested that positive thoughts, plus smiling and laughing every day, increase the body’s endorphins (the “feel-good” chemicals), which might make you look younger too. Positive thoughts certainly will attract more people to your side, since everyone loves to be around those who are happy.

1. FACT/FICTON: Cardio burns more calories than strength training.
Fiction. Contrary to long-held belief, strength training is—as new studies have shown—superior to steady-state cardio in caloric burn. In one University of Southern Maine study, participants blasted as many calories doing 30 minutes of weight training as they did running at a six-minute-per-mile pace for the same amount of time. Unless you’re Lolo Jones, strength is your best bet.

2. You can reduce cellulite through exercise.
Fact. Cottage-cheese thighs can affect even the fittest athletes, and though exercise can’t prevent cellulite, it can help reduce the appearance of those tell-tale dimples. Cellulite is fat, so calorie-blasting activities and the right nutrition can make your skin look smoother. Likewise, weight gain can make cellulite worse. “Women lose about five pounds of muscle per decade, and they lose most of it where they don’t use their muscles: where they sit. When they lose that muscle in their hips and thighs, the overlying layer of fat doesn’t have much of a foundation, so it starts to get pockmarked,” explains Wayne Westcott, Ph.D., author of No More Cellulite. “Strength training can play a major role to tone that muscle and get the firm foundation back.”

3. Crunches are one of the best moves to target your abs.
Fiction. You probably know crunches are old-school, but you may not know hwy they’re not very effective. What’s their weakness? Most women initiate crunches with their hip flexors without engaging much of their core. This may get the surface muscles in your abs, but it ignores the ones underneath, which are also essential to a flat stomach.

4. Exercise immediately improves your ability to learn.
Fact. It sounds unbelievable, but it’s true. In a study at the University of Muenster in Germany, participants who ran sprints learned new words 20 percent faster than those who did nothing. Other research has tied physical activity to improve attention and memory as well.

5. The morning is the best time of the day to exercise.
Fiction. If you have your pick of any time of the day, the late afternoon would be your ideal workout window. Muscle strength and body temperature both peak somewhere between 4 and 6 p.m., allowing you to work out heard with less effort. And you’ve eaten breakfast and lunch, meaning you’ll have much more fuel in your tank.

6. Running a marathon increases your risk of a heart attack.
Fact. A May 2009 study form Winnipeg’s St. Boniface Hospital and the University of Manitoba confirmed what other studies had previously said: Marathons do cause short-term injury to the heart, but thankfully, they don’t seem to cause lasting damage. In this study, MRIs were used to show abnormalities in the hearts of runners in the Manitoba Marathon. They tracked 14 athletes, and all showed cardiac stress immediately after the race. After a week of rest, however, the runners’ hearts showed no long-term effects, and for most, heart function had returned to pre-marathon levels.

7. Lift weights quickly to increase the burn.
Fiction. Though it may seem counterintuitive, the opposite is actually true. When you blaze though each move, you often use momentum instead of your muscles, and you also increase your risk of injury. “If you go too fast, you’ll muscle through areas that are weak,” Jack says.

8. Stretch before you run.
Fact. Stretching is a hot-button issue in running circles, and while “stretch before you run” used to be the conventional wisdom, new research has shifted this opinion. Recently, a review by epidemiologist Ian Shrier, M.D., of six stretching studies in the Clinical Journal of Sports Medicine found that none of the studies showed that stretching before exercise prevented injury.

Do you know what you are actually injecting in your butt during a Brazilian Butt Lift procedure? In a Brazilian Butt Lift performed here at Escobedo Esthetics, Dr. Escobedo takes fat from where you don’t want it and injects it into your butt to give you that beautiful rear view. Additionally, liposuction of the waist, back, hips, and thighs provides a sculpted waist and curvy silhouette that adds to the appearance of the newly sculpted buttocks.

However, women are now taking shortcuts and are getting silicone injected into their buttocks to get this beautiful rear view. As a doctor, I do not recommend this shortcut at all because silicone is not approved by FDA to be injected into the butt. Furthermore, the death of former Miss Argentina, 37-year old Solange Magnano, as she died after undergoing a “buttocks augmentation” procedure back in 2009. Solange Magnano, a 38-year-old model and mother of twins, remained in critical condition with acute respiratory deficiency for three days after her “buttocks augmentation” surgery in Buenos Aires. Her friend Roberto Piazza told the AP that the procedure involved injections and the liquid “went to her lungs and brain.”

This is an ill-fated and troubling mishap that Argentina faced, but is not alone as procedures to enhance the buttocks were rare in the United States 10 years ago, but is a now a very popular procedure. Injecting gel silicone directly into the body leads to disfigurement, infections, pneumonia, and death. There is no guarantee the syringes neither are sterile nor is there any guarantee the substance being injected is gel silicone.

What can you expect from the butt lift procedure here at Escobedo Esthetics? You can expect a new, safe alternative for butt implants, which Dr. Escobedo performs here at Escobedo Esthetics through the fat transfer method. Unlike typical buttocks augmentations, the butt lift procedure enhances natural female curves by removing fat cells from desired regions, purifying them, and later re-injecting them into the buttocks to create a gorgeous, feminine sillouhuette.

Remember the good old days when you talked with friends and colleagues by email or—going back in time even farther—on the phone? No one could see if your hair was greasy, if you hadn’t waxed your brows, or if you were wearing sweats. Cameras have always given us angst. When Facebook and other social sites started to demand participation by everyone and their grandmothers, Photoshop, the image-editing software once used mostly by photographers and design students, got a lot more popular. And as Skype and video apps improved in quality and became more user-friendly, it got easier to video-chat in real time. Better technology, specifically high-definition TV screens and crystal clear computer monitors, also exposed more of our flaws. The first victims were television celebrities, whose blemishes and laugh lines now filled our living rooms. Skype and FaceTime, unfortunately, sometimes emphasize our less sexy features, such as that extra bit of flesh below our chins. Part of the problem is the camera angle–we hold our phones at waist- or chest-level as we talk, and computers are likewise positioned lower than a person’s face sitting in a chair opposite us. If there is any fullness or sagging in our neck area, it’s front and center to the person on the other end.

The cosmetic surgery community has responded in a big way. In the past two decades, cosmetic procedures have increased 82 percent, according to a report by the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery. Surgical cosmetic procedures have nearly doubled in those years, from 939,000 to 1.6 million, while non-surgical procedures have jumped ten-fold, from 741,000 to a whopping 7.5 million per year.
And they continue to escalate. Plastic surgeries rose 5 percent in 2011 (to 13.8 million) over the previous year, says the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. Minimally invasive procedures, including treatments using Botox, Restylane, and Juvederm, increased about 6 percent.
What’s the most popular surgery?

Experts report that one of the most popular procedures is chin implants, which have exploded in popularity increasing 71 percent between 2010 and 2011. The procedure juts out the chin slightly to give more definition to the jaw line, picking up a bit of that sagging neck to create a more flattering profile.
For the same reason, chin liposuction, a procedure costing about $2,000 in large cities, also has grown in numbers. Chin surgeries, we should note, have become a hot procedure among young adults, with women between the ages of 20 and 35 accounting for much of that increase. Young adult men, and even teenagers, are likewise noticing the less flattering features and pursuing chin and neck procedures as well.

Botox, fillers, and chemical peels were among the most popular cosmetic treatments in the United States and fueled growth in the plastic surgery industry for the third consecutive year, according to statistics released on Tuesday. The American Society of Plastic Surgeons said 14.6 million procedures were done in 2012, an increase of 5 percent from 2011.

“For the third consecutive year, the overall growth in cosmetic surgery continues to be driven by a significant rise in minimally invasive procedures, while surgical procedures remain relatively stable,” Gregory Evans, the president of the society, said in a statement. Botox treatments rose 8 percent last year to 6.1 million procedures, along with the skin-smoothing treatment microdermabrasion. Demand for fillers to smooth out wrinkles jumped 5 percent, while laser hair removal treatments rose 4 percent and chemical peels jumped 2 percent.

Overall, minimally invasive treatments accounted for 13 million procedures in 2012, while surgery such as breast enlargements and facelifts dropped 2 percent to 1.6 million. “Female cosmetic breast surgeries such as breast augmentation, as well as body contouring procedures like tummy tucks, were some of the most popular procedures performed in 2012, although they saw declines,” Evans explained.
Although breast enlargement surgery dropped 7 percent from the previous year, it was still the most popular surgical cosmetic treatment with 286,000 procedures, followed by nose reshaping, liposuction, eyelid surgery and facelifts. Reconstructive plastic surgery, which improves function or abnormal appearance, was also up slightly last year with tumor removal the top surgery. The American Society of Plastic Surgeons represents more than 7,000 surgeons in the United States.

Treating people with HIV quickly after they have become infected with the virus that causes Aids may be enough to achieve a “functional cure” in a small proportion of patients diagnosed early, according to research. Scientists in France who shadowed 14 patients who were treated swiftly with HIV drugs but then stopped treatment found that even when they stopped therapy for more than seven years still showed no signs of the virus rebounding. The research, published in the journal PLOS Pathogens, follows news this month about a baby girl in Mississippi being effectively cured of HIV after receiving early treatment.
Christine Rouzioux, a professor at Paris Descartes University and a member of the team that classified HIV 30 years ago, said the results showed that the number of infected cells circulating in the blood of these patients, who are known as “post-treatment controllers”, kept falling even without treatment for many years. “Early treatment in these patients may have limited the establishment of viral reservoirs, the extent of viral mutations, and preserved immune responses. A combination of those may contribute to control infection in post-treatment controllers,” she said.

“The shrinking of viral reservoirs … closely matches the definition of ‘functional’ cure,” she said. A functional cure is when the virus is reduced to such low levels that it is kept at bay even without continuing treatment. The virus is still detectable in the body. Most of the 34 million people with HIV around the world will have to take anti-Aids drugs known as antiretroviral therapy for the whole of their lives. These drugs generally keep the disease in check but also have severe side-effects and are high-priced.
Worldwide, the number of people newly infected with HIV, which can be transmitted via blood and breast milk and during sex, is falling. At 2.5 million, the number of new infections in 2011 was 20% lower than in 2001, according to the UN Aids program. And deaths from Aids fell to 1.7 million in 2011, down from a peak of 2.3 million in 2005. This data “and the Mississippi study strongly support early treatment initiation and may hold important clues for the development of a strategy to cure HIV or at least induce a long-term control without the need of antiretroviral treatment,” he said.

1.	Brazilian Butt Lift at Escobedo Esthetics: The Brazilian butt lift at Escobedo Esthetics is a type of butt augmentation procedure that results in a youthful, flattering, buoyant buttocks and a more sensual body profile. The procedure removes fat from selected areas of your body such as the lower back and love handles, purifies the fat, then, re-injects selected donor fat cells into your buttocks. This technique is custom designed to your particular body type and ethnicity. The Braziian butt life performed here at Escobedo Esthetics improves natural female curves by removing fat cells from regions close to the waistline and upper thighs, purifying them, to create a beautiful, feminine sillouhuette.

2.	Natural Breast Augmentation at Escobedo Esthetics: Natural breast augmentation at Escobedo Esthetics is a specialized procedure where unwanted fat is carefully harvested from areas of the body such as the tummy, underarms, love handles, and thighs. The fat is then reintroduced into the breast to improve volume and increase size without cutting or opening the breast.

Natural breast augmentation is an excellent option for women who want to restore lost volume and enhance their appearance without the un-natural look or feel implants. Using advanced technology and technique, fat is carefully harvested from unwanted areas of the body and transferred to the places you do want it.

3.	Male Pectoral & Gluteus Enhancement at Escobedo Esthetics: Natural Pectoral Enhancement at Escobedo Esthetics is a procedure designed to add fullness, size, and shape to the male chest. Natural Gluteus Enhancement is a process of adding fat into the muscles that form our buttocks.
_
A concern of many men of all ages is a flat chest and fat deposits in areas that are unresponsive to diet and exercise (such as under the nipple and in the underarm region). Dr. Escobedo finds that liposuction of these areas effectively solves this problem while adding fat to the pectoral or gluteus muscles improves the size and dimensions leading to a more lean, fit and athletic torso.

4.	Facial Contouring at Escobedo Esthetics: As we age, our face naturally loses fat, creating a sunken and wasted appearance commonly seen in aging and HIV individuals. Today, not only do we use synthetic fillers to improve one’s appearance, Dr. Escobedo also injects harvested fat into desired areas to create a more youthful and fuller look. Unlike standard fillers, harvested fat may last for years and provides a natural result.

5.	Hand Rejuvenation at Escobedo Esthetics: Our hands age just as quickly as our face. Many patients say that the second area of concern besides their face is their hands. Combating the aging hand syndrome takes more than hand cream. The latest technology has given us a set of procedures that will have similar effects as those we have been able to accomplish for the face. Fat transfer performed by Dr. Escobedo skillfully rejuvenates the texture and appearance of the hands.

Thermage is a recognized, unique radiofrequency treatment that can help tighten sagging or loose skin, naturally giving you a dramatically smoother, sleeker and younger appearance. Thermage results in little down time and delivers a change that is never drastic.
Thermage is ideal for patients who want long lasting results without injections, surgery and downtime.

Thermage is a non-surgical skin tightening procedure that uses radio waves to lift and firm the skin. It can be used to rejuvenate several areas of your body, including your face, stomach, knees, arms, legs and butt. Thermage was initially used to tighten facial skin, smooth wrinkles and improve facial contours without incisions or downtime, but its use has been expanded to other parts of the body. Thermage is effective in the following areas: Face, Eyes, and the Body.

Thermage can lift sagging eyebrows, increase the prominence of cheekbones and redefine the jawline. Additionally, Thermage can tighten wrinkled facial skin, improve the appearance of double chins and turkey necks and eliminate the signs of aging on the hands.

Planning to fly over the holidays? Better hope you sit next to a woman. Turns out, men and women have completely different travel habits, according to airline data and interviews with airline crews and frequent flyers reported by The Wall Street Journal. Women prefer the window seat, men prefer the aisle, and no one likes the middle seat (no surprise there). While women tend to curl up in their seat to avoid touching anything or anyone, men often sprawl out, taking up as much legroom and arm room as they can. But changes in on-flight behavior aren’t the only differences between genders. “Women who travel a lot say one of the biggest frustrations is that men often assume women don’t have the top-tier elite status or first-class seat for early boarding,” according to the article. Because of this, women tend to get cut in line, jostled around, and sometimes pushed out of the way while boarding.

Unfortunately, there’s not much you can do to combat the jostling, especially in line. But the good news is flying doesn’t have to be complete bedlam. Use these tips from Lee Abbamonte, travel blogger for the Huffington Post who’s been featured as a Travel Channel expert, to make your next plane ride as pleasant and stress-free as possible.
Pack lighter:
“This is the number one thing I see women having trouble with,” Abbamonte says. “Women pack too much, and then they can’t lift their bags up into the overhead compartment.” His rule of thumb: A carry-on bag should weigh about 15 lbs or less. An easy way to drop some weight? Leave your hair dryers, flat irons, and unnecessary cosmetics behind.
Choose your outfits wisely:
Would you rather your seat mate chat you up, or leave you alone to read the latest Women’s Health in peace? If you want to avoid chit-chat, consider dressing more conservatively, Abbamonte says. He has often seen—and often hears about this from his readers—that men will talk to a less conservatively dressed woman throughout the entire flight.
Claim your space
: The person in the middle should get the armrest,” Abbamonte says. But a woman in the middle seat can often end up with no armrest whatsoever—especially if she’s sitting between two guys. The solution? “Firmly stake your claim to the space,” he says. If you nicely put your elbow up on the armrest, it’s pretty unlikely that the person sitting next to you is going to shove you out of the way.

Escobedo Esthetics offers VASER Liposelection, which is a minimally invasive body sculpting procedures that incorporates ultrasonic waves to selectively separate fat deposits, while preserving surrounding nerves, blood vessels, and tissues, promoting smooth results and fast recovery.

Traditional liposuction aggressively removes fat, many times resulting in damage to surrounding tissues leading to a longer recovery period. VASER Lipo is tissue-selective, protecting nerves, blood vessels and connective tissues. As a result, patients experience minimal pain and bruising and a quick return to normal activities.

However, VASER liposuction is a definitely advanced form of liposuction. It helps to buy a perfect contoured body and to control your emotions by removing the pounds around the muscles, up until the muscular structure or muscle tissue gains more visibility. It is preferred with regard to those who are in good health.

VASER Liposelection:
1.	Efficiently treats large quantities of fat
2.	Precisely sculpts delicate areas of the body
3.	Incorporates local anesthesia for an out-patient clinical setting
4.	Delivers Fast recovery times
5.	Generates Smooth & tighter skin

Whether you’d like to lose a few pounds in traditional areas — your waist, thighs and bottom or finely sculpt your arms, neck or chest, VASER Lipo gives you the results you want. VASER Lipo targets specific areas of the body. Ultrasonic waves break up and separate fat cells for removal, while leaving vital tissues unharmed.
VASER Lipo is so precise and gentle that patients typically report dramatic reshaping with little downtime. Physicians like VASER Lipo because it gives them the precision to produce more predictable results — whereas traditional liposuction can result in lumpy or uneven areas.
